My Grandfather

This is a piece created by my late grandfather from Ecuador (Luis Alcocer). He designed many pieces for the churches in Quito, Ecuador, crafting out gold plates and statues. A lot of my drawing 'style' I can see carried on from his work and did not realize how much it is embedded in me. When I was younger I visited him in Ecuador and he showed me how to carve and etch out the designs for the plates. I can only remember small breaths of this but it must have impacted me more than I have let on. My brothers use to tease me a lot being the youngest brother of three when a small child. My grandfather would bring me on his shoulders to the market and buy strawberry candies to calm me down. I had a very hot temper while growing up and creating art has been an outlet for all the bottled up aggression.
