My final year at the MFAI program (SVA) so far has been tough. David Sandlin I do believe is just warming up. The program has turned me into an avid reader. Most of my time consists of reading the newspaper, a book a week along with school readings.

My thesis project will surely develop my style and understanding of who I am. The first image has been started and I will post soon with my new web site.

Also, this image 'DOOM' is a care free side project that allows me to experiment in collage and stamp. Check out my other 'Faux' screens throughout my blog.

Sorry to all that view my web-site and blog. I have been on hiatus due to the demands of the masters program at SVA. Not that I am taking it easy but I have a bunch load of scans to post online and hardly the time to do it. Over the past weekend I hurt my back pretty badly. I stayed in bed all weekend and still recovering.

My new web site will be up and running shortly. As for now I am posting my latest contribution to REBEL REBEL night at the Annex music club.

I will post my drawings when the book debuts. This will be my first comic printed without scratchboard. The piece I created has a more fine art approach and influenced by my latest readings/research/theories.

I colored a piece for a good friend Robert Pollak. I've known him for quite a while and have colored many of his postcards.

This is the first illustration I had the freedom to color as I wish. I took a silkscreen approach to it and controlled my acidic nature.

The piece will possibly be published as a coloring book cover Robert is working on right now. Time will tell.

The 'Furanku' post earlier on did not match the original silkscreen tones. I adjusted the contrast to match the dark purples.

I was working more in a RGB mind set opposed to the other CMYK (Regan, Ami). I would like to print these in cards offset which lead to the conversion. I do prefer the use of ink in its purest color and may continue to use it this way, closer to RGB mode.

I enjoy working in silkscreen and finding out how much from etching. Recently I spoke to some friends about the differences in process. Etching feels more as a quiet symphony as to Silkscreen a heavy metal, punk rock method.

This years ICON 5 Illustration Conference will be held in New York City at the historic Roosevelt Hotel in midtown Manhattan.

This year's theme is The Big Picture. The conference promises to examine the current creative and economic forces that our industry faces today.

ICON gathers the industry's best and brightest talent to present and talk about their work, their business, their lives, and their passion for illustration.

Marshal Arisman personally asked for my contribution to the Xerox Playing card set distributed at the conference. Included in the set are selected SVA, FIT, MICA and Pratt students.

Shown here is the illustration created by Edel Rodriguez with the illustration I created for the card set. Anna Raffdesigned the border for the SVA section.

Here is my second etching. The actual print was printed backwards. Lesson learned now what's next?

Presented is the correct flipped version as the computer allows to cover up those mistakes.

A silkscreen ode to one of my favorite monsters...'FURANKU' (a.k.a Frank). I was playing in the silkscreen lab today with my new acquired color palette. As you can see I am enjoying myself very much.

Two versions displayed here give off two different unique feelings. I like the pink face as it is not too 'commercial' and harder to read as to the 'purple' face has a more dominant presence to the character.

Page 8: Edo flees this abomination in terror. An unknown creature appears from the sink holes that are on the ground. ZAP!!! The creature is no more. Edo stands in wonder as the creature asks "Have you heard about the good news?" More creatures appear from the sink holes.

Page 9: The creatures continue to harass Edo. Edo thanks the death of the monster. The creatures swarm over Edo, chanting 'Good News'.

Red Skull Revisted

I was not extremely happy with the coloring and composition of the previous Red Skull. Something about it bothered me. It felt extremely amateurish and not to the full extent of my capabilities. After a few critiques from a good friend I was inspired to re-visit the piece. I took away the tight frame from the original, added some hands, removed the tacky gradient tool (a tool so many fall into the darkside with). Strange this piece taught me a lot of lessons. I like this piece a lot more concluding to DONE. NEXT.

Here is a song I wrote last summer 2007. This is just a quick sketch. I believe that this was the first take. I wrote it as I played it/recording at the same time, improv along the way. I added a drum beat later after cleaning up the hum. I titled this 'Enough is Enough' out of what? I do not know. CLICK HERE

African Burial Ground Preview

Recently I was directed to develop an on location drawing project of my choice. African American history has been an interest of mine since a young boy. I decided to choose the African Burial Ground in NYC for my studies. It was a highly emotional project. I am very proud of this book, which will be donated to the site for possible display.

Displayed is a brief preview of the whole illustration for the Playboy magazine competition. I will post the illustration in its entirety when it is reviewed. I personally like this face as I did it from memory. I referenced the hat and scribbled an angry face.

Here it is. The premiere sketch pages of 'EDO'. I have been trying to draw a strip daily featuring my character 'EDO'. This sketchbook (a birthday gift from You B.) is entitled 'Magic Rub'. I will post up more pages shortly.

Page 1: In this page, Edo is lost on a deserted planet. His Ice Cream Craft has broken down and we catch him stranded. He does not know where he is and so there it is.

Page 2: Finally Edo arrives to a city. He still does not know where he is but is confronted by a hostile spacecraft.

Here are the pages for Rabid Rabbit # 8 COLORED!!!! These pages will be printed black & white in the latest issue of Rabid Rabbit but I had an urge to color this piece. As of lately, I am leaning away from heavy blacks introducing more color. This comic strip was very fun to work on. The theme for RR #8 is the White Album by the Beatles. Blind luck I guess that they are one of my favorite bands ever! My song was 'Mother Nature's Son'. Read this strip along with the song, I hope it is entertaining.

I used some of my friends from the MFAI program as models. Matt C. is the main character with blonde hair, Sybille, Nu, Joanna, and YJ in the second page.
